What Is Earth'S Second Moon Asteroid 2024 Pt5. Starting september 29th, earth will have a temporary second moon, a small asteroid named 2024 pt5. In just over one week’s time, earth will gain a new celestial companion that will stay for two months in the planet’s gravitational cradle.

Because 2024 pt5 has a similar motion to earth’s around the sun, the asteroid will linger as a distant companion of our planet for a few months at a distance of about nine times farther. Earth is set to get a second moon later this month.
